The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Sunday revealed the truth behind the crowd at Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s rally, claiming sanitation workers and teachers were forced to attend under pressure. Senior AAP leader and Leader of Opposition in the Delhi Assembly, Atishi, along with other party leaders, shared videos on social media showing that when Delhi residents did not voluntarily attend, the BJP-led MCD compelled its employees to fill buses and participate. Employees themselves said it was wrong to send them to the rally under the pretext of “duty” and that they were coerced.

Atishi stated that sanitation workers, whose responsibility is to keep the city clean, were being diverted for political events. She called this a misuse of power, saying that summoning them on a holiday under the guise of duty and sending them to a rally was “an exploitation of government machinery.”

Atishi Accuses BJP of Exploiting Dalit Sanitation Workers

Posting on X, Atishi alleged that on Sunday morning, poor Dalit sanitation workers were called in the name of duty but were instead packed into buses and taken to Modi’s rally. “This is the real face of BJP,” she said, accusing the party of making these workers do politics instead of their actual work. Sharing videos from Seemapuri, Janakpuri, and Laxmi Nagar, Atishi claimed that employees were summoned on their day off not for cleaning work but solely to attend the BJP rally.

She questioned, “What right does BJP have to send sanitation workers to a rally in the name of duty? Is MCD’s job to increase Modi ji’s crowd?” Atishi further said the BJP is openly insulting Dalit workers and using them as “political workers,” calling the act illegal and inhumane. She demanded action against MCD Commissioner Ashwini Kumar for misusing authority.

Councillors and Leaders Echo Allegations of Misuse of Power

Janakpuri Ward No. 105 MCD Councillor Praveen Kumar said Sunday is a rest day for sanitation workers, yet they were forcibly taken to the rally. “It clearly shows BJP has no real workers of its own,” he remarked. Dariyaganj Ward No. 142 Councillor and AAP Women’s Wing State President Sarika Chaudhary said, “BJP has made it a norm to summon government employees for rallies. Unlike BJP, AAP has never done this. People don’t want to attend BJP rallies because they have demolished slums and troubled residents. That’s why they are forcing MCD teachers, sanitation workers, and ASHA workers into rallies.”

AAP Youth Wing Delhi Vice President Mukesh Kumar also wrote on X that all Delhi government employees were ordered to attend the rally. “Votes they can take from machines, but where will they get people from? After working all week, employees rest on Sundays, but even then they were dragged to this rally,” he said, adding, “This is a BJP rally, not a government rally.”

Workers Speak Out: Fear, Threats, and Forced Attendance

MCD employees strongly opposed being sent to the rally under the pretext of duty. They pointed out that Sunday is their only weekly holiday to rest and manage household tasks. One worker revealed that his pregnant wife was due for delivery, yet he was threatened with dismissal if he refused to attend. Another female sanitation worker said she was fasting for Krishna Janmashtami until late night but was still called for “duty” the next morning.

Workers said no attendance was even being marked for the day, yet they were forced to board buses without knowing their destination. Many claimed they were threatened and coerced into joining. “This is intimidation and misuse of power,” employees stressed, calling it both illegal and unjust.
